Reduced routing speed on RT-AX53U

Hello everyone,

I’m currently running OpenWRT version 24.10.2 on ASUS RT-AX53U router, I have a 1 Gbps speed and was getting around 950 Mbps when performing a speed test.

For the last couple of months I’ve been experiencing a speed decrease in nearly 40% from 930 - 950 to around 550 - 580.

I tried to find out what’s causing the problem, so I connected my laptop directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and got the maximum speed (around 950 Mbps), then I’ve connected the router to the modem again and connected my laptop to the router with an ethernet cable, then I performed a reset to the router through Luci flash operations, without making any changes in the Luci interface I’ve performed a speed test again and got internet speed around 550 - 580.

I think the problem started after upgrading the firmware to 24.10, after I upgraded even the latest version didn’t fix the problem.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this ?

Thanks

It depends on how many services this router is running. Are you noticing high CPU usage?

Have you read this:

and have you enabled hw offloading ?

Enable off loading on Firewall tab and see if that helps

Furthermore things which might help are irqbalance and packet_steering

irqbalance does not balance on ramips…. one has to re-measure at 3 possible steering levels.

The problem occurs even when the router is after a clean reset, no services installed.

The CPU looks fine.

Flow offloading type is currently set to None.

Seems like setting Flow offloading type to Software flow offloading resolved the problem, Thank you !

Firs in network/interfaces/global repeat measurement at 3 packet steering levels, then with the best of them go through offload levels.
