Range extender with OpenWrt to a router with stock firmware

What's the best way to extend WiFi (from router with stock firmware)?

  • I guess that WDS should not be used with non-OpenWrt routers.

  • Relayd is not necessary because there is no need to LAN access.

  • Is it the right way to setup a wifi-cient to the non-OpenWrt router,
then setup an access point with a different network-address w. masqerade with the same ssid / encryption?
Or could the IP packets go in circles?

  • a different setup

Double nat and wwan will work, wired backhail and dumb ap will be faster and with lower latency.
Relayd and wired will allow seamless roaming keeping same IP

Thank you!
I'll try with Relayd, I didn't think it would be possible to do seamless roaming from OpenWrt to a non-OpenWrt router.

Wired is not possible.
