you have to build yourself
I assume "everyone" here is the Linksys $20 device community, not the rest of the Openwrt users ?
What are you implying by mentioning the price? That the device is an extreme value that many recognize and desire to put OpenWRT on to maximize their utility? I will also point out that these populations are not mutually exclusive, as many existing users (including you and me) snapped up these devices.
Introducing a bug, causing other devices to fail, just because some people wanted an image yesterday, is the wrong way to go.
I'm curious how you envisage code that enables a new device to function would somehow cause other devices to fail. I would suggest that while theoretically possible, that is just highly unlikely, especially in this particular instance. In addition to all his great work here, @lytr also authored the support for the MX5300 and MX8500.
Attention/interest sky rocketed because of the price...
Indeed, but I'm not the one rocking the boat.
Depends on what parts of the openwrt "code" are changed ?
If data/code shared with other devices is touched, there's always an increased risk.
@robimarko seems to agree.
I get your point, but the PR changes a lot of stuff, so its not easy to review and I really dont want other devices breaking just to get this one in.
I don't see anything that breaks other devices; is there something in particular that concerns you?
Be enlightened and take a look at its commit list.
Only people living in the US have the chance to get these $20 deals. The fact is that the majority of OpenWrt developers are in Europe.
So.. only US sellers, can make money out of it? Or you were reffering to something else?
The device is only sold for $20 in US.
I know, but I know, what would be the price in EU for a "second hand". Same as RT3200 nowdays.
Depends on how greedy people are, the 80€ WRX36s were resold for 160€ on EU eBay.
If someone actually bought them, I have no idea.
This discussion is kind of off topic here, let's end it.
I bought two of these to play around. What's the holdup on the PR merge?
There's a lot of people on slickdeals getting these (LN1301) with intent of installing OpenWRT. Wouldn't it be nice to have them run official build and report issues?
Patience (and reading a few posts up in the thread) is a virtue?
Reminder that no one gets paid to do anything here. This isn't a service.
What's stopping you from submitting your own, simplified, PR ?
No problem. What exactly needs to be simplified in your opinion? The PR looks good to me.
My guess is, the parts that are shared with other devices, require additional verification.
As I'm waiting for my own device to arrive, I thought I'd raise some questions and discussion on the topic of external antenna mods, found here:
This router is also now supported by the DD-WRT project and supports SFE-NSS-ECM, for those who may be interested. It also has a mtd26 OOP partition which records kernel dumps for easier retrieval for those without ttyusb serial connections. While still a WiP, it's pretty solid.
EDIT: Also DD-WRT allows ondemand overclocking to 2208mhz.
I'm still waiting for my devices to be delivered. In the pictures I see 4 antenna connections labeled as X g, DE b, DO R, t W that go to PCB patch antennas on the top of the unit.
It is same as MX4200v2.
I just got mx4300 and before I flash openwrt I want to make sure that in flashing the correct build. Does the original @lytr build work on all versions, both the standard one and the homewrk? Or do these require different builds? If so, how do I find out which version of the router I have?
