And I wasn't replying to you ,)
Received a TTL usb dongle. What are the pin outs for this? MX4200 v1 wiki shows GND, RX, and TX, but should the Vcc be connected? my USB cable is indeed 3.3v. Here's the wiki page I'm referring to but confused if i need connect all four (GND, TX,RX,3.3v) or just (GND, TX,RX). Also, where is the 3.3v on the pin outs? https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/mx4200_v1_and_v2
You never connect Vcc (3.3v).
thanks. I've got some weird behavior now. I've disconnected everything, and only thing plugged in is the power. the power button on the bottom of the router is set to OFF. even while the power button is set to OFF, i'm getting a blinking blue light on the router. WTF gives? did I just brick this one?
Can you let me know which cable works and process. I have a bricked router.

Try HOLDING the RESET button then power ON. Keep HOLD of RESET button till you get a solid RED LIGHT. Turn off and on. Does the problem still exist.

Are both partitions corrupt have you tried switching to the other partition?
-
For future reference I would recommend leaving one partition with the original Linksys firmware and the other partition with openwrt.
After flashing Lytr's build, I noticed the WiFi client was disconnected immediately when connecting to either of 5G radios. No issue is found on 2.4G radio. However, if I disabled encryption, no disconnection issue on 5G radio.
Any help is appreciated.
Update: The issue was gone after I reduced the password length to 9 characters. My original one is long (58) but I never had any problem before.
The syslog (for the 2nd 5G radio) shows:

@qosmio @lytr is there a guide to installing OpenWRT on the LN1301. My Router exterior box has a white sticker that reads MX4301-UN LINKSYS HOMEWRK FOR BUSINESS 1PK. SKU LN1301 there is a long barcode starting with 10745 ending in 3838. Purchased from woot.com
Under the router, the sticker reads MODEL MX4300, under this there is small font text that reads HOMEWRK WIFI-6 MX4300.
I've used OpenWRT before but I've never seen such a complicated install process for any router in the past so I want to make sure I'm well prepared before getting my hands dirty.
@cchhat01 -
i have these devices.
you want lytr's mx4300 build from
install factory from the linksys gui at 192.168.1.1 . you hvae to click the 'CA' hyperlink in th elower right to open up the advanced menus that allow manual firmware upgrade.
if the device doesn't reboot to openwrt in 2 minutes, then power off and restart
So finally I got to install the @lytr branch on mx4300 I got from woot.
It seems all good but I don't see the switch menu option in luci even though confirmed in logs that the support is present in the kernel "802.1Q VLAN Support v1.8"
The swconfig is missing plus no entry in /etc/config/network for switch or switch_vlan
I am a little confused as I thought this is not a DSA router.
Can someone help with configuring vlans ? I believe @Ka6uka you have set it up with vlans. Thanks for any help!!!
Edit : Actually I was able to setup vlans just fine but still curious about the missing switch menu in luci. I thought it only happens when a device is based on DSA ?
I have Asus Onhub that's on latest mainline 23.05 but shows the switch menu so I was assuming all swconfig devices would have it. It's running on 5.x kernel though and has only one lan port...
As I mentioned in my previous post, something weird is going on in 5G radios. With a 58-character-long WiFi key ("WPA2-PSK/WPA3-SAE mixed"), the client will be quickly disconnected within a few seconds. If I reduced the key length to 9, the disconnection issue won't be observed. If I changed the key back to the original 58-character-long one, there would be no problem. However, whenever I change the WiFi setting (such as a different channel), the disconnection issue will be resurfaced again. I had to do this workaround (key length 9 first then 58) again.
Thanks for the instruction @ghoffman. To be clear, I need to install the openwrt-qualcommax-ipq807x-linksys_mx4300-squashfs-factory.bin
, correct ?
Also, I didn't see anything in your post about needing to install the firmware on both partitions. Is it not required ?
Also, when you say "power off and restart
" ? Do you mean to restart the firmware flash or just reboot the router ?
Correct. Correct install only on one partition in case something goes wrong. Power off means after installing power off and restart if you cannot reach 192.168.1.1
Any chance you could share this build? Would the ath11k patches help further improve wifi performance? I'm getting pretty decent performance now, about the same as my wifi5 routers, unless I'm in the same room as the mx4300
Well I understand the power-off part, the "restart"
is what I was not sure about. I'll assume the restart means just reboot the router and not to "restart" the flash procedure
Seems you got the OK from 6 reviewers, which is a good sign.
Does @lytr 's build not include luci ? I am air-gapped! How do I get the UI ? Is there a built package available for me to grab ?
Snapshots don't have luci
Thanks, I managed to get luci installed.
Is this an NSS enabled built or non-NSS ? So that I know whether or not to enabled software and hardware offloading in luci UI
Lytr's build is not nss enabled. You can build one uisnt qosmio's branch
