OpenWrt PPPoE-WAN VLAN tagging necessary?

Currently have a VDSL2 connection that's served via PPPoE. The VLAN should be tagged correctly in the bridged-modem, I'll have to actually go check if need be in the config files (Rooted Technicolor TG799vac running fork of OpenWRT 15.05, so the underlying structure is the same). I'm just wondering whether I should bother with setting the VLAN in the router's WAN interface as well (i.e: eth1 to eth 1.XX) if the connection already works. Thanks.

No, you do not, The modem will do the tagging for you.
