Hello, could someone send me links to the items needed for my OpenWrt One to have WiFi 7 and 6GHz? Thanks in advance, regards.
The OO has WiFi 6. I don’t believe it has extended Wi-Fi 6E, that adds the 6 GHz band.
Yes it is a 2.4/5 GHz dual-band device without a 6 GHz radio. The WiFi chip is soldered onto the PCB, so replacing this with a 6GHz/wifi7 capable one is pretty much not an option. In theory you might be able to plug an additional radio into the M.2 slot, but that with its single PCIe 2.0 lane will not give you the throughput desirable for wifi7.
In short your best realistic option is to buy a different router, like the turris omnia NG or the in-the-works-but-no-ETA-given OpenWrt Two that comes with 6 GHz and wifi7... (I believe that some BananaPi variants also allow wifi7). As far as I can tell wifi7 for OpenWrt seems to be not yet ready for prime time though...
Just curious, is here some documentation [incorrectly] noting the OO as having WiFi 7?
I think you want a kit like the BPI-R4 to have all that. And even then driver support isn’t complete.
Or the OP could just buy an additional WiFi 7-capable AP and add it to his network.
He wouldn't get the full speed (because the OO has no 2.5GB port) but could use at least the 6GHz band.
The OpenWrt One actually has a single 2.5 Gbps ethernet port (and a second 1 Gbps ethernet port)...
Well, this happens when you rely on your (not anymore so reliable) memory ![]()
Thanks for the correction.
Sorry for having been a bit impolite... my "advantage" here is that I use a One in my home network and hence might more familiar with it...
No problem at all...i didn't receive your reply as impolite.
It's always a good thing when wrong statements (like mine) a going to be corrected.
