Sorry, another question, the one I've downloaded ends in .bin and not .tar, does that matter?

Not exactly your device, but close enough:

Install EdgeRouter X firmware to EdgeRouter X SFP

Simply use initramfs.bin image Sysupgrade can also be used from initramfs image to flash OpenWrt.

Mentioning of the kernel.bin instead of tar (already back in 2017, an still today the bin is being built, not the tar):

You can use LEDE modifications made by obsy from eko.one.pl He's maintaining OpenWRT and LEDE images for a number of different devices and keeps them up-to-date. He also provides superb support for anyone who needs help with setting up OpenWRT/LEDE on their devices.
