OpenWRT for Banana Pi BPI-R4 8GB device

Hello to the forum,
the Banana Pi BPI-R4-Router is sold in two versions:
4 GByte RAM
8 GByte RAM
But in the OpenWRT Firmware Selector you can only download versions for the 4 GByte version.
Unfortunately I'm not a programmer, so I would be very happy if someone could compile OpenWRT 24.10.3 for the Banana Pi BPI-R4 8 GByte RAM-Router and make it available via the OpenWRT Firmware Selector?
Thanks in advance
"Klaus"

Hello frollic,

thank you for your prompt reply. However, the download links on the page

unfortunately do not lead to the desired OpenWRT versions:

For the factory image (https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/ 24.10.2/targets/mediatek/filogic/openwrt-24.10.2-mediatek-filogic-bananapi_bpi-r4-sdcard.img.gz) is a 24.10.2 version for the 4 GB version of the BPI-R4.

And version 24.10.3 (https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.3/targets/mediatek/filogic/openwrt-24.10.3-mediatek-filogic-bananapi_bpi-r4-sdcard.img.gz) is unfortunately also not for the 8 GB version, because I installed that yesterday and successfully put it into operation. However, only 4 GB of available RAM is displayed there.

However, I found a bootloader eMMC version for the 8 GB version.

I would like to install it via U-Boot, but I don't know how to do that.

I guess I have to do it via TFTP – but how?

where does it say you need an 8GB image ?

you did read the page I provided, right ?

Yes, I have read the page you provided. And there you can read that the bootloader that frank-w created for the BPI-R4 was NOT tested with OpenWRT. I also tried some other bl2.img from that page marked for the 8 GByte version - also without success.
And if I boot from the stock image provided by the OpenWRT Firmware Selector it detects only 4 GByte of the installed 8 GByte of DRAM.
So, to answer your question: YES, I need an 8 GByte image to use the full power of my 8 GByte BPI-R4. And I think I'm not the only one...

I think you are:

Disregard all I've written - they sold me a 4GByte version... :face_vomiting:

I also tested the openwrt 24.10.x with the bl2-image from frank_w.
8GB RAM is recognized.
But my fan is not running on the 8GB RAM board.
Did someone have the same problem?
