Basically, the size of OpenWrt (kernel + everything else on top of it) is now too big to comfortably fit on 8 MB of flash and the minimum flash requirement for the next release (where your device would get support if possible (which it isn't)) is > 8 MB.
Of course, depending on SoC and other factors which varies between devices, it may be possible to fit the next release on 8 MB of flash, this is however a dead end as it would be extremely hard to find any contributor to the project willing to spend time on bringing support of OpenWrt to a device of this nature when the stated goal of the project is to officially drop support for 8/64 devices; the time and effort calculation doesn't make sense.
