OpenWRT as PON endpoint

Hello,

I had a recent fiber upgrade from my ISP and I got a new modem and an SFP stick.

  • With the previous fiber setup, the SFP was a GPON stick (miniONT).
  • The current one has a plain transceiver SFP and the modem provides the ONT stack.

I would like to pull the new SFP and use it in my OpenWRT router (BPI r4) but, with this new setup, I would need OpenWRT to provide the ONT stack.
Is this possible? How can I set it up?

Thank you.

Good question, I believe there is no opensource pon stack, so likely you need to get a "full MAC" sfp stick that handles everything...
I do note though, because it contains some irony, the intel falcon full mac sfp gpon ont sticks seem to run a full modified (outdated) openwrt as their OS.

You have to ask them to supply old form factor.
