Hi,

The OpenWrt community is proud to announce the first service release of OpenWrt 21.02. It fixes security issues, improves device support, and brings a few bug fixes.

Main changes from OpenWrt 21.02.0

Major bug fixes

• Fix Let's Encrypt certificate handling in WolfSSL
• Fix sysupgrade for Mikrotik targets
• Fix sysupgrade for Rockchip target when using squashfs

Device support

• Add support for iEi Puzzle-M901/Puzzle-M902

Various fixes and improvements

• Add build system support for Python 3.10
• Fix which handling on Fedora and MacOS build systems
• Add Tmux terminfo

Core components

• Update Linux kernel from 5.4.143 to 5.4.154
• Update mac80211 from 5.10.42 to 5.10.68
• Update ath10k-ct to 2021-09-22
• Update wolfssl from 4.7.0 to 4.8.1

Known issues

• Some IPv6 packets are dropped when software flow offloading is used: https://bugs.openwrt.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=3373
  • As a workaround, do not activate software flow offloading, it is deactivate by default.
• The menu bar in LuCI is wrongly aligned
  • If this is a real problem for you update the LuCI theme: opkg upgrade luci-theme-bootstrap

Other than using approx. 20% more memory with the same (21.02.0) packages and configs, and issues with the ATH10K-CT drivers (replaced with the standard ATH10K set), so far so good.

I have installed the update on 3 devices, all successful!

Ubiquiti RouterStation Pro (ath79) -- fixes an ethernet port speed regression that was present in 21.02.0!
TP-Link TL-WR902AC (ath79) -- everything working well
Linksys E3000 (br47xx) -- this is my test/development unit to play with routing/firewall settings and other packages. I don't use wifi on this device.

It's great to see the wolfssl (Let's Encrypt) issues solved. I can go back to a smaller image without OpenSSL now on routers that are almost running out of flash space.

IPv6 flow offloading is still broken? That was the only known issue from 21.02.0. It is so disheartening to see a project like OpenWrt treat IPv6 as an afterthought in 2021.

Maybe I'll be able to update my Archer A7 next year.

If so, how?

On first reading, I assumed you meant than 19.07.8, which is a question I've asked before but have never seen answered.

If you really were comparing to 21.02.0 though, what is the differential with 19.07.8?

Well, it's basically a choice between disabling IPv6, or cutting performance in half. When I bought the A7, flow offloading was necessary to match the performance of TP-Link's stock firmware. If that's now deprecated, then maybe I should take it as a sign to buy better hardware; this thing barely covers my house in any case.

Rolled back to 21.02.0 and get roughly the same thing.

Successfully installed and running on Netgear R6220, WNR3700v2, Linksys MR8300 and PC x64. Several devices of each, various configs (router, AP, mesh, VPN). In each case, it uses a custom build with a few packages. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Would have posted this in the 21.02.0 thread - but that was closed 4 hours ago

Anyway been digging a bit more to the wifi problems I have on the 21.02 series, specifically on one machine only (a ten year old amd e350 machine). Whats clear is just just keeps loosing the carrier on wifi. Alas the logs are sparse:

I have successfully upgraded my wrt3200acm and wrt1900acs from 21.02.0 to 21.02.1. The routers have been up for more than a day.
Everything has been very solid. I noticed that the wifi on wrt3200 has improved a lot in terms of stability and signal strength.
Really appreciate all the work that the dev team has put in. I cannot thank you guys enough.

I'm having issues with Xiaomi Mi AC2100, 5 GHz, WPA2-EAP and fast bss transition:

The device is configured as "Dumb AP". When I test the transition walking around the apartment, the wifi device (a Samsung Galaxy S21) doesn't transition, the AP gives the message "did not acknowledge authentication response" and soon freezes.

Disabling the fast transition seems to solve the freezing.

Fast transition on 2,4 GHz works (althouugh I tested only with WPA2-PSK).

I had no problems with 19.07.7 (the scp07 build).

Lately, it seems shallist is not working in Adblock 4.1.3. I normally use the following sources : adaway, adguard, disconnect, oisd_full, shallalist, yoyo. For shallist I usually block Category : Porn Usually, I get 1.3M to 1.4M blocked domains and as of late, I am getting +- 385K. This is on RPi4 using 21.02.0 release. Anyone else having this issue ? What's the fix ?

I know this has been covered, but the more i read, the more confused i get. I'm trying to upgrade a Linksys WRT1900AC from 19.07.7 to 21.02.1. But i get to confusing errors. I'm not going to preserve settings, as i know that won't work. From what i understand with this model Router, I'm facing 2 issues. Issue 1, the change to DSA and the way networking works means you can't preserve settings and is the reason for a warning. But, then i see issue #2 message that the partition sizes need changed and so you shouldn't upgrade. So am i supposed to upgrade with LUCI using the sysupgrade image, or the factory image? I'm going to include both screenshots. There error first says to not preserve settigns, which makes sense, but then the rest of the erorr says to sysupgrade not support and to use factory?
So what is the best way to upgrade?
links to where some of my confusion begins. I tried to research, but read too much to the point i see conflicting opinions. One person stated to use factory, then further down someone says openwrt can brick your device using factory and it's only meant for coming from a factory image to openwrt?

The link above is where my confusion sets in, and it appears to have started a debate between factory ans sysupgrade images.
So I guess, can this be done via LUCI, and which image file should i use? And if I can use sysupgrade, why does the error message say to use factory?

Factory as the kernel space needs to be increased, by either GUI or CLI.
