OpenVPN performance

Hi all,
I've installed OpenVPN on a Dlink DIR842 router and it works fine except for the speed. My internet connection is 70/70 Mbit. If I test speed directly I have 73/73 Mbit. If I connect with OpenVPN from another 100/100 Mbit connection also with DLINK DIR842 I can only achieve 15/15 Mbit in a test where I use my own network outbound. Is it normal for OpenVPN or what might be the reason ?
I run on OpenWRT snapshot from january 2020.

Model D-Link DIR-842 C3
Architecture Qualcomm Atheros QCA956X ver 1 rev 0
Firmware Version OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r11924-99dd2709b8 / LuCI Master git-20.011.66524-83c6227
Kernel Version 4.19.93

@petercal If you are not satisfied with the OpenVPN performance, maybe wireguard is worth a look:

Use Shadowsocks or WireGuard Instead, Both are Okay
