[not possible] OpenWRT 24.10.0 on D-Link DGS-1210-28 H/W C1

Is it possible to install OpenWRT 24.10.0 on a D-Link DGS-1210-28 with H/W C1? If so, how? I can't find a serial port or a place on the motherboard to install an adapter.

J3, based on https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=b5bd945733a7ed235777c2ceaa0ff27dc779630f

are you sure it uses the same hw ?

I attached images of the switch mainboard. I don't know whether is it the same hw.

More interesting whats under big heatsinks, so far you see psu and gige phy-s
Maybe first try to get some boot logs from OEM firmware?

@svanheule might be able to answer the support(ability) question ...

Ok, here are pictures of the chip and the back of the mainboard.

How can I get the boot logs? I can't find any other connection than LAN.

broadcom is no-go.

Wrt console, you can see the footprint of a missing RJ45 connector and RS232 level converter chip on the edge closest to the power supply. If there is a pin header, then it will be close to the chip footprint. Maybe it is hidden behind the cables on the picture? If not, then you will also find the rx and tx signals somewhere on that footprint.

Not very useful though. Sell it and buy a realtek based switch instead

Ok, thank you very much. Then I will buy another Switch.

Within the DGS-1210 range of devices, revF/G are typically Realtek based, while revA/B are Marvell and revC/D Broadcom (violations of this rule of thumb may exist!).

I wouldn't exactly call either Marvell or Broadcom 'no-go' (for this particular purpose as a wired-only switch), it's probably possible to get OpenWrt running on those as well, 'just' that no one has (really) tried so far (so you'd have to start with the birds and the bees, months++ (double-digit) of development work)…
…and given that we have Realtek support (even if that still needs a lot of love), there is little motivation to look into the others.

But yes, for an enduser, anything not Realtek is a no-go here.

The Marvell based switches may not be that bad as there is some support already available in upstream Linux. There is a kirkwood-98dx4122.dtsi for the older ARMv5 based switches and more than one dtsi for the newer Armada based switches. There is also existing support for some of the MikroTik based switches like the CRS305, CRS326 and CRS328.
