Newfast NF-A882

Hi everyone,

A while ago, I purchased three Newfast A882 outdoor access points.

These are PoE, IP66-rated devices featuring one Gigabit PoE port, two additional Gigabit Ethernet ports, and dual-band radio (2.4GHz and 5GHz).

I haven’t been able to find any information regarding OpenWrt compatibility for this specific model. Interestingly, the web interface looks identical to that of Comfast access points.

Has anyone here tried to install OpenWrt on this model, or does anyone know if it is supported or potentially compatible with existing firmware?

FFC ID is 2BAO6-NF-A882, but the photos of the internals are missing.

I'm able to SSH the NF-882A, but I need username and password to access it.
I also have no "expertise" on how to safely disassemble the access point (it as no screws...)

Any screws will most likely be hidden under the device label.

I tried looking under the label, but there are no screws. It seems like I need to unscrew the hexagonal nuts from the two antennas and then find some kind of plastic snap-fit mechanism. In fact, it looks like that part should be able to slide off the outer casing, as shown in the picture:

Be aware that at the end of the day, you will be the one doing the development to support this device (or no one else will), so you will be the one answering and not asking. The alternative would be to choose among the devices that are already known to be fully supported, the devices where others have done these tasks already for you.

Knowing what components are inside is vital for the question if the hardware would be supportable in theory, but it doesn't magically do the necessary development work by itself (nor are the chances high that anyone will go out and buy exactly this device to work on). On top of that, we're increasingly dealing with locked down hardware, secure boot and encrypted/ signed firmwares, which can even spoil the fun for hardware that could otherwise be supported just fine.

what about admin/admin, root/admin or empty password?

I have tried all possible username/password combinations, including 'admin', 'root', 'password', and blank/empty fields, but none of them work.

The OEM GUI only prompts for a password ('admin') without requiring a username. The interface is incredibly similar to the Comfast EWxx series.

Does anyone know how to bypass this or what the default credentials might be?

I was hoping it was possible to get hw info using linux instead of disassembling it.

Unfortunately, 3 chips are covered by their respective passive heatsinks.

I do not know if these pictures can help in figuring out the architecture of this Newfast model.

I did another step above.

I was able to download the configuration backup (it is not encrypted, is a simple compressed .tar file) and get access to it.

Moreover, it seems that Newfast is, indeed, a Comfast clone.
I found "comfast" reported in some config files.

I'm not able to get root access to SSH to download the original firmware.
And I still miss precise info related to the SoC.

Unfortunately, I was not able to root the AP using the method described here.

When I create the backup-ssh.file, I can successfully upload using the GUI. But it seems to ignore the new shadow file.

So it seems there is no other way other then solder the TX, RX, GND pins of the UART.
