NetworkManager-ssh

Has anyone managed to get this working with openwrt yet?

Wireguard is causing me no end of problems and really all I want most of the times is a secure line back to my home network and it's resources.

Re: this software there's very little out there on how to troubleshoot when it cannot connect however.

What are you talking about ? Pls, be more specific, in case you want some help.

https://github.com/danfruehauf/NetworkManager-ssh it's in gnome Network-manager

Do not know, that gnome/network-manager-ssh is part of openwrt. You should ask for help in their repo.

your sentence doesn't make any sense.

Listen, I don't really want help from you tbh.

Hi, to receive assistance from the volunteers here you need to explain how your issue is related to openwrt.

the software involved is a vpn using network manager under linux over ssh, using openwrt for firewall configuration for forwarding on traffic.

I'm posting it in case anyone else is trying to get it working for their setup and searches for the package name.

Please connect to your OpenWrt device using ssh and copy the output of the following commands and post it here using the "Preformatted text </> " button:
grafik
Remember to redact passwords, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have:

ubus call system board
cat /etc/config/network
cat /etc/config/wireless
cat /etc/config/dhcp
cat /etc/config/firewall

Ok, therefore is your question how to allow openwrt to forward a wireguard connection to a device on your lan?

That’s fairly straightforward

Perhaps include a network diagram with the details brada has asked for.

The nm extension is pppd over ssh, some clarity needed whether openwrt needs be client or server or gui for such protocol.

There is nothing in the link I've posted above to indicate any use of pppd at all in NetworkManager-ssh. Please link to any detail indicating it if you have a url.

Here's a bit more about how it works

Wrong answer to challenge

Brada4 I would prefer you do not attempt to help me, I cannot understand what you write and it's causing more confusion than help at this point.

To receive assistance you need to provide the requested information from your openwrt router.

If you don’t want to do this I suggest closing the thread as no one will be able to help you.

I have looked at the GitHub repo. The application is a gui front end to ssh. There is nothing unique that is different to setting up ssh normally. Just port forward the ports you want to use in openwrt and the router part will be done.

As I've already said before, I wish this thread to be findable by other openwrt users looking for help using NetworkManager-ssh. I feel like this should be apparent from the first post that I'm not really looking for input from people not familiar with this specific piece of software, but I'm reiterating here again just to be sure.

Normally I use sshuttle in order to accomplish the same thing as this but the integration with gnome / UI is a bit cleaner, however I'm not particularly familiar enough yet with TAP / TUN devices yet to begin messing with my firewall rules.

Why? Who will be providing help to these 'users'?

I feel like I've adequately explained my reasons twice now, if you are unable to comprehend them, it's no longer productive to continue to try to explain.

You might, noone else does. Hence the repeated requests for clarity about what the actual purpose of this thread is and how it relates to OpenWRT.

gotcha, I understand.................:ok_hand:

Also, if it's not already clear, OpenWRT doesn't support or use NetworkManager. Nor does it use a number of the dependencies NetworkManager relies on. Nor does it have a GUI.

So, in short, no-one is likely to have previously got it working with OpenWRT. And no-one is likely to, in the future, get it to work with OpenWRT.
