Network loop on TP-Link Re200 extender

Hi everyone,
This is my first message on the forum. Thanks to anyone who will take some time to reply.

So, I installed OpenWrt on my TP-Link Re200 v2 extender. Worked fine. Then, I followed the steps laid out in this guide: Wi-Fi Extender/Repeater with WDS, to set it up as an extender once again (but with free software running on it :-).

I followed the guide (via LuCi) up to this point:

Go to Network, DHCP and DNS, Forwards. Set DNS forwardings to the IP address of the access point.

I may have followed the step right after, too, although I'm not sure ("Go to Network, Interfaces, lan, Edit. Set IPv4 gateway to the IP address of the access point").

Then, I saved the configuration, without having enabled STP. Then, my router wasn't accessible anymore (neither via ethernet cable at 192.168.1.1, nor via Wi-Fi at its assigned local address).
I guess I created the "network loop" that is described in the guide.

Could you please help me out in fixing this?

Extender setups are easy to get wrong, especially if you're new to OpenWrt, you may have to reset a couple of times until you reach a working configuration.

Thank you, that got me out of the loop, as I was able to reset.

For future reference

The LEDs on the Tp-link Re200 flashed as follows:

  1. all lights on
  2. power light on, 10 secs
  3. no lights, 10 secs
  4. fast paced flickering (5 Hz), 4 secs
  5. medium paced flickering (2.5 Hz)

To get into failsafe mode, I pressed the RESET button during the fast paced phase. Entering failsafe made the lights flicker even faster (10 Hz).

I set a static IP. Then, ssh didn't work (Bad server host key: Invalid server length) (does anyone know why?) but I made it in with dropbear.

Edit: I don't yet have permission to edit my first post; the Extender/Repeater guide is at https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/wifiextenders/wds
