I just purchased Beryl AX (GL-MT3000) and wonder if I should switch to plain OpenWrt
I really want to switch to fully open source to avoid potential backdoor, but here is my main concerns:
Gl firmware uses specific method to randomize MAC and BSSID to avoid tracking. It is especially critical for travel router (remember that all smartphones nowadays do so). As I understand there is no way to do so on openwrt even with custom setup? Correct me if I am wrong. Better with links, proofs and this kinda stuff.
Does openwrt supports USB stick modems? (I don't have wired connection and it is impossible to set it up)
Gui. Gl uses some thing to protect gui from bruteforce. Can I do so with openwrt (manually)?
OpenWrt can do this, too. Forum search should turn up many results.
Yes, although obviously it depends on the specific model. Search the forum for your stick modem model and see if it shows up (or create a new thread and ask). You'll want to create a custom image that includes the necessary packages and also read up on how to configure the device before you flash your router if you don't have another internet connection.
there are various methods... the most important being that the default firewall will not allow connections from the internet/wan. If you don't totally trust your local network, you can create additional networks to cover the various trust levels you need to have, including one that has management access while the others do not.
