MT6000 newbie... AP configuring

About to dip my toe back into the openwrt world, had enough of my terrible virgin router and want a basic reliable set up… so from reading I think a pair of flint 2s will do what I want nicely.

One will be a router, the other just a wireless access point with an ethernet backhaul.

I'm trying to remember my way round the build system, but I might cheat and use the community build as at least I know that'll work :joy: but that's questions for another day lol…

Want I want to know is, what do I need to do to set up the access point, I assume I need to give it a fixed IP address from the main router, then turn the AP routers DHCP off, set up wireless with matching ssid to the main router.

Do I need to disable the firewall on the AP router? What about the radio channels, do they need to match the main router or will that cause interference? Would I be better go either ends of the range.

What's needed for this fast switch roaming Ive seen mentioned? Is it something I need to install on both routers?

Thanks everyone, it is much appreciated.

Just enable 802.11r Fast Transition in WLAN roaming config for each ap and use the same id for mobility domain.
