Moving to Sky under 500Mpbs

Hi All,
I hope you are well. I did read that pinned article however since my new connection is not going to exceed 500Mbps I think I can get away with the all-in-one box. I am not planning to upgrade above 500Mbps anytime soon as this speed is an overkill already

I also remember your old recommendations to install OWrt on a RPi 4.
I am finally moving away from VirginM (DOCSIS) to Sky (FTTP).

Is OpenWrt One a good candidate provided I can get it in UK?
What else would you recommend?
Thank you

GL-MT6000 or T-56 (the T-56 is just as good, but half the price - but there is a risk that future (soon) devices/ OEM updates will make flashing OpenWrt impossible, so it's slightly risky to recommend these days).

OO should work as well.

Is T-56 = Zyxel EX5601-T0 or -T1?

I can see some -T0 on eBay.
Thank you

Yes.
T-56, EX5601-T0 and EX5601-T1 are variants of basically the same device, mostly differing in the SFP+ port. The only advantage of the Dutch-ISP-branded T-56 is its price (and that has doubled within the last half year), so if you can get the original (which is not/ less at risk of being locked down hard) for a reasonable price, take it.

Whoa, what?

Just to be clear, in terms of performance and features, T-56, EX5601-T0, EX5601-T1 (you'll have to read up on the details between them yourself, as the T-56 was the only one I looked at closer) and GL-MT6000 are pretty much identical - but if you want ease of flashing and emergency recovery procedures, the GL-MT6000 is much easier.

For the most part (and SFP+ yes/no), T-56, EX5601-T0, EX5601-T1 mostly differ in what you can purchase in which country for which price. But in terms of ease of use, they'd need to be considerably cheaper than the GL-MT6000 to consider.

A Cudy 3000 series device ?
Keep in mind the WR3000E is tricker to flash until Cudy release their intermediary OpenWRT image.

is WR3000E supported?

I can see WR3000, WR3000S, WR3000H on the supported list?

thank you
lastly is there an advantage to go for WR3000E rather than WR3000?
I reckon WR3000 is a bit older.

Yeah, I think I read the E is a newer model.

It has 128MB of flash instead of 16MB in Wr3000 (for example, if you want to install adblock (ex. adguard), your Flash mem will 100% almost immediately. and there is no USB port to somehow compensate for this. But even without this it is extremely little, it will not be enough for the future)
Everything else is identical between them.

witch isn't a big deal, because with an adblocker, the mem usage will sky rocket too, causing OOMs

if you haven't bought anything yet, grab a https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/24077111488.
it's trickier to flash though.

can you elaborate on the "trickier" bit for me? I can see this term being used here. Does it mean I can do it myself or I have to visit a man who has a soldering gun?

Do you mean Zyxel is way better than Cudy?
Zyxel does not seem to have antennas.

you most likely need to crack it open, and use serial to flash it, header's presoldered though.

oh yes, 400MB flash with ubootmod, 1GB RAM, and two 2.5GbE ports.

that's a bad thing because .... ?

@rokfor2000 just did one (of two) they bought on UK eBay, was is complicated ?
