Hi.
I'm new to OpenWRT (veteran Linux user), and looking for cheap no-nonsense hardware to run my home internet connection.
My minimal requirements:
- 2 uplink Ethernet ports (one to Australia's NBN modem using PPPoE and one to an Ethernet 4G modem). I am planning to use mwan3 to failover between them.
- Gbit ethernet for internal traffic, and for the uplink for when I get a faster connection (I'm currently on 100MB/20MB HFC)
I already have a large ethernet switch, ethernet cables throughout the house and a couple of Ubiquiti AP's, so I don't need more than 3-4 ethernet ports and no WiFi or mobile support.
I can get https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/luxul/luxul_abr-4500 very cheaply on eBay. It seems to be well supported by the current OpenWRT.
My only two questions are:
- about the noise level I can expect from it, since it will be sitting in my home office.
- Is there anything I should be aware of about it that will block me from using it the way I plan?
