Linksys LN6001 (Linksys Velop Wrt Pro 7) to OpenWrt 23.05

Hello everyone,

After speaking with Linksys support today about why their latest WiFi 7 router is still running OpenWrt 19.07-9, I was unfortunately told that, since it is an open-source router, I should reach out to the OpenWrt community.

I hope to find someone here who can help upgrade the firmware of the Linksys LN6001 (Linksys Velop Wrt Pro 7) to OpenWrt 23.05.

Thank you all for your support over the years! You’ve been a huge help in keeping my Linksys WRT1200AC running all these years!

well, they lied to you.

it's not supported, yet.

Hmm, I wanted to ask about this router also because the idea to have a router ready out of the box with OpenWRT is kinda enticing but that it uses an older version of OpenWRT is real bummer. I guess I have to look through the forum to find another one, if I want to use OpenWRT in the future.

Hello Thomas,

Here’s a great alternative, especially since it has a better Wi-Fi antenna than the Linksys. I’m very satisfied with the Zyxel Multy M1 Wi-Fi 6 Mesh. They are currently being sold for next to nothing on classifieds (Kleinanzeigen) - you can get two for EUR 35. There’s also a great tutorial on YouTube showing how to hack the M1. It takes about 5 minutes.

... and if in US, a 2-pack of MX5300s is $50 on Amazon.

The Zyxel Multy M1 sounds more like an AP not a router. Also now I'm kinda fascininated with those Banana Pi or Turris routers or GL-iNet. So much choice.
