but I cannot currently connect a USB device to test.

Armada XP doesn't have USB 3.0 controller. After looking at dts for mamba, it seems that it has USB controller attached to PCIe line, but I don't see XHCI_PCI enabled in target/linux/mvebu/config-4.14. On the other hand kmod-usb3 has it enabled and also XHCI_MVEBU, which looks wrong. Prepare image with kmod-usb3 and see what happens.

@panda-mute
That looks more like a power issue or issue with usb device itself. Try to attach different usb device and see what happens. On the note; I remember having an usb wireless card working when attached with extender on particular kernel version, but after upgrading to newer, it stopped working when attached trough extender, with similar dmesg output as Yours. It might be that something in kernel USB stack changed that is causing Your issue, which would need bisecting.

Yes, you are right, I change a USB device and it works now.

Adding kmod_usb3 to mamba image enables things on the USB3 port on that device again.

There You go. As this is unrelated to the kernel bump, someone (preferable with this hardware) would need to submit a patch solving this issue, and backport to 18.06 release.

FYI, anyone wanting to test kernel bump: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/1110513. Anyones Tested-by: would be appreciated.
