Issues connecting to my MX60W's serial connection

Howdy! I'm currently trying to install to my Meraki MX60/MX60W, but I can't seem to connect to the serial interface. I'm using Adafruit's USB to TTL Serial Cable, and it got very hot when I first used it with nothing coming from the device on the serial window of putty. I swapped the vcc and gnd wires so the cable's vcc was going to the boards gnd and the gnd to vcc, and I got the letter 'h' that came through, or 3 horizontal lines that took up one character.

Is there something I should be doing differently?

This should be deleted cause I'm an idiot who kept connecting the TX and RX backwards.

Actually a good reminder for others that almost always connecting TX, RX, and ground (and not V+/Vcc) is sufficient.
