I am a noob, and for mistake I installed the snapshot instead of last release on my Wavlink WL-WN573HX1. Connected thru ethernet to my macbook and only getting a wrong autoassigned IP, tried with manual IP as well. Cannot ping, neither connect thru ssh to the router. Help please.
A snapshot usually won't brick your device... the difference compared to a stable release is that the snapshots do not include LuCI (web interface) and may have other random bugs, but rarely does this result in a brick.
FWIW, your device appears to only be supported in snapshot, so you can't (yet) install a stable release anyway.
That said:
- What exact file did you install?
- How did you do the installation?
- How are you connecting?
- There is only one ethernet port on the device so this port should be directly connected to your computer's ethernet port. (A PoE injector is fine, or a PoE switch as long as nothing else is connected except for your computer and Wavlink device.)
- What address were you using to try to reach the router via ping or ssh?
- What address and subnet did you set on your computer's ethernet port?
- And did you turn off wifi? it is critical to ensure that there is only a single active network connection.
Thank you very much for replying. Can I install LuCi thru SSH anyways?
I installed the Factory file thru the router admin panel firmware update
I am connecting thru the PoE injector and ethernet cable
I am trying to reach 192.168.1.1, but have also tried 192.168.0.1, 192.168.10.1.
Yes I turned off wifi
That was yesterday, now I am trying to connect to the router and the lan lights on my computer will flash for about 5 seconds and go off, no connection. The PoE injector says "Lan data in", could this be the problem?
This sounds like a possible boot-loop situation. You may need a TTL serial adapter to further diagnose and/or fix the issue.
The labeling on PoE injectors can vary, but they should in essence be "lan/data in" and then "PoE+data out." The out side should go to your Wavelink device and the data in should go to your computer (or later likely a network switch or similar).
Yes, once OpenWrt is running in general.
