Intel ax210 support

Hi All! Do !That! means now intel ax 210 supported by openwrt? But i see no package, is it integrated in kernel? Or i have to compile it from somethere..

I've tryed use ax210 year ago and it wasnt supported so i've sold it..

As client, yes. The hardware (proprietary firmware) still doesn't support AP mode on 5- or 6 GHz and likely never will.

Thank you for answer, i wanted use it as ap..
Any info why intel wired drivers are greatest, but wireless are so low supported?

Intel for whatever reason opted to not allow client WIFI cards to be used as a high end AP option. Though as the generations move forward you can get decent speeds out of them in AP 2.4G mode.

I personally would love it if they unlocked things as I could make a AXE AP for ~$25 instead of waiting for actual AP's supporting AXE to come down in price. Right now the only reasonable option is still about $750 and the module version to just add 6ghz is $350 for the single band.

Whereas I can get a AX AP for $160 w/o 6G band. Part of it seems to be the clearing of 6G spectrum by governments for use as WIFI. The other side of it is production of the products as client cards have been out now for 1-2 years but, the routers/AP's are just starting to trickle out.

Maybe this summer we'll see some more options. Hosting a card in AP mode though needs to get Qualcomm / Broadcom on board with AX / AXE products as they haven't to my knowledge bothered to release anything and let Intel take the market share for WIFI6.

Hi! Thanks for reply! I can't get, is it a software problem (lack of drivers), or it's intel hardware own problem?

It's that Intel won't allow the 5G / 6G bands to be softAP. The firmware won't allow the programs to turn it into an AP on those bands.

are you sure it's correct info? i have asus z390 board with intel ax200 integrated and it works perfect as AP at least in Windows 11!

Are you sharing 5ghz AC / AX or just 2.4ghz? Using a WIFI Analyzer app on a phone will give you the info. The apps / sharing options are limited to the HW firmware options they can use for AP mode. The HW / FW from Intel though is restricted to 2.4ghz for hosted AP options.

Intel driver does not support AP on 5GHz band at all for reasons unknown to me. Trying to launch it is just a waste of time (at the moment of writing), so if you've ended here via google search - just don't.

it is expected that AP mode cannot be enabled in non-2.4 GHz channels.

Not quite, you'd still need three wireless cards (and a mainboard with three M.2/ PCIe slots to take them) for a usable wifi6e AP (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz) - and prices for a single piece have also risen beyond 25 bucks. While Dual-Band-Concurrent (DBDC) is slowly starting to become possible on Mediatek hardware (and to a lesser degree some QCA hardware), these Intel wireless cards can only tune into a single channel (band) at the same time (no, I wouldn't exactly recommend DBDC either).

And yes, these cards aren't able to work as AP in the 5- and 6 GHz bands at all (no IR means that the wireless card can't instantiate radiation, which it would have to do in AP mode):

We agree already in that they can't do anything more than 2.4 in AP mode.

It was more of a "wish" that Intel would unlock them for AP mode use as they're cheaper than diving into anything else right now and Intel has the market hostage at this point with no vendors releasing 6/6E adapters.

M2 or PCI works for me though when they start coming out as I can slot either in my case and rewrite my hostapd files / services to activate them and be on my way for much cheaper than a router or AP for 6E.

Before I jumped from AC to AX I was running a QNAP AC2600 card w/ dual files / services and it worked great but I wanted more speed than AC offered. I switched to an external AP because there's nothing else that works on AX internally with hostapd.

CONFIG_PACKAGE_iwlwifi-firmware-ax210=y

could used this

probably still no AP feature, no matter what.

i will try at saturday and post here

I wouldn't hold my breath.

I saw a workaround.
But you need to build your own image of openWRT
If it works I will post the solution

try Set up AX210 step by step

well, the news
Windows 11 FINALLY ALLOW create 5GHz AP! They call it mobile-hotspot, work ~430mbit/s
But when i try to check it with openwrt it just not even show AP mode, only client

i am not 100% sure correct or not work my aliexpress ax210 adapter, not ax210 itself but minipcie to pcie, it have some damage..in windows pc, i use it straight into mobo

If one day ax210 can turn on 5g please let me know
