Installation on a tp-link re350 wifi repeater

I'm trying to install openwrt on tp-link re350 wifi repeater.

Firstly i've tried downloading the factory image and then uploading it via the web ui in the firmware update page of the repeater but an "invalid checksum" error is shown and the process stops.

I've also tried to use TFTP method, put a static ip on my laptop and connected it to the repeater via Ethernet, holded the reset button and plugged in but nothing happens and the log is empty.

I was just wondering if there is anything else I could try.

Thanks in advance for your time.

disable the firewall on the laptop, make sure the correct interface is selected in the TFTP server application (at least if using TFTPD64).

Thanks.

Well, the interface keeps changing upon plugging in the repeater and i need to reselect the correct one while still holding the reset button. So maybe this is where i fail?

In any case as I couldn't find any information online, can you kindly confirm if that's the correct/working method to install openwrt on re350?

you can put a router or a switch between the laptop and the 350, then the laptop won't notice the dip, making it reset the port it's listening to.

technically, uploading using the web interface should work - https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=f683385e73f09c13fd08c3d352f3f1739c1944c4

please check the product label on your device, there's also a RE350K.

Ok, I just tried to install version 21.02.07 and it installed fine via the web ui.

Thank you

great, you should now be able to upgrade to a recent release.
don't keep the settings while upgrading.

Actually those are the latest "factory" and "sysupgrade" bin files i could find. For the latest release i only find a "initramfs-kernel" bin.

I guess that was the reason why I couldn't install that bin via web ui in the first place.

i'm stuck with 21.02.07 for now...

so it seems.

there was an issue reported, and closed, but they're still not building.

@hauke would you know why some images still aren't built ?
