Install current release on Asus RT-N56U with OpenWrt snapshot installed

Hello there,

I am in a pit of a pickle. I have an old Asus RT-N56U with a snapshot image installed (image without Luci and minimal packages) and want to install the current release on it.

Due to kernel incompatibility, I cannot install Luci or other packages on the current installation, hence I do not have a tool (that I am aware of) to install the current release.

Do you have any idea how I can get the current OpenWrt release installed on this device? Otherwise this device is pretty much useless.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Best

Normal sysupgrade via CLI?

Hi tmomas, my sincere apologies for taking this long to respond. I had quite a lot of other issues to deal with lately. I was able to solve the issue by issuing a Asus firmware rescue tool (https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/installation/recovery_methods/asus_firmware_restoration_tool, currently only available for Windows) which is also able to flash OpenWrt onto the device.

Thank you very much for your quick response though!
