Hi, I am new to openwrt. I have installed the 22.03.5 version on Huawei EchoLife HG556a C to use it as a repeater. It manages to scan the main ADSL network, but then when I select that it does not get any signal anymore. Any help?

Short answer, no. Long answer, not unless Broadcom have a huge change of heart and decide to release open source drivers for their chipset(s).

Try this filter.
If possible, avoid devices with 16mb flash, there's a couple of those in the list.
…and avoid everything that doesn't come with QCA-Atheros WLAN cards (if you care about WLAN functionality), so namely (old, pre-mt76) RaLink or lantiq-WAV300.
