HPE MSM466 support (likely identical to 460)

Has anyone tried the MSM460 instructions/bootloader on the MSM466? (looks like same hardware but with RP SMA ). (edit: MSM460 also has two dual band radios but limited in software per checking another thread)

Starting a thread as I should have a number of units coming in the hope of getting them working on OpenWrt.

Cheers.

What hardware are you talking about? Deskjet? Probook?

Thanks for reaching out.
It's in the same family as this:
https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/hpe/hpe_msm460

My teardown for the MSM466 on WikiDevi page shows the only difference is the antennas.

Probably read 10 years old news. Got fcc id to locate official pictures?

Thanks Yeah after looking closely the board numbers appear to be the same. (edit: clarifying, between the ones uploaded to WikiDevi)

Can you get FCC ID from the unit?

I guess see WikiDevi?

I'll report back on further info once I have the units in hand and give it a go myself. Probably next week given interstate shipping though =(

OK, heads up then.

would be great to get this merged: https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/16248

So it is same with reversed plugs?

Looks like that's just changing the DTS for MSM460.
Good to have that pointed out for when I do my test builds though.

Looks like this sets the mac address in the DTS rather than in hotplug.d in userspace. As well as moving LED pin definitions? Nothing to do with MSM466 support specifically?

You stand a stronger chance of getting your changes merged if you add submit description and the Signed-off-by: tag. See https://openwrt.org/submitting-patches#submission_guidelines.

Hi All.

So I tried the MSM460 instructions on the MSM466 and was successful.

Of note is Colubris_BID has the board number in it at 0x197. (J9622-6001, i.e. j9622-WW in my case). From what I think that means, to add this device properly I would need to do some detection and select the device tree in the bootloader?

Flashing ended up dropping the max transmit power in 5ghz? I ended up from 20dbm max (both bands) in factory with a 2dbi antenna set to 17-18dbM in 5ghz and 22dBm max in 2.4 at least as reported by iw phy0 info and iw phy1 info

I don't know how max transmit power is set, nor how to set antenna gain and will have to look into.

I'll be working on a quick patch to get the board name right first. i.e. user decides which firmware to use?

Also of note is that it's 115200 baud rate as per the default in the factory firmware. not 9600 like it is on the TOH

As an aside:
I was getting gibberish on my USB converters which worked fine with other 115200 devices but using a proper hardware one in a desktop worked fine.

Posting bootlog as I haven't seen an MSM460/MSM466 bootlog posted anywhere where it has been flashed to openwrt? No wiki page yet? Not sure whether I should create one yet.

Also modified the wiki page for 115200 per the device tree.
