How to switch from ImmortalWRT to OpenWRT? (AX3000T)

Hello, I would like to switch my AX3000T router's system to OpenWRT. It is currently running ImmortalWRT. Is it possible to do this through the web interface by simply uploading the sysupgrade file?

Does your AX3000T still have the stock Xiaomi bootloader, or has it been replaced with a custom one? Do you have backup of stock partitions?

It’s always safer to return to the stock Xiaomi firmware first and then install OpenWrt.
Maybe someone with experience in ImmortalWrt can suggest the correct way to return to stock.

Yes, my router still has the default bootloader, and I have also kept a backup of all the default files.

Then you can try restoring the stock Xiaomi firmware using the TFTP recovery method, unless your ImmortalWrt firmware has some restrictions that i'm not aware of (check it).

The stock firmware for your router can be downloaded here.

Thanks for your help! I'll try the procedure as soon as I can and come back to say how it went.

Hello again, I tried performing the upgrade in a slightly different way (since TFTP would be my guaranteed chance to recover the router). I have two AX3000T routers and thought about updating them using ubiformat to write the OpenWRT image directly to the MTD.

I noticed that my two routers are different because, using the command cat /proc/cmdline, one showed firmware 1 and the other 0. On the one that showed 0, I wrote the ubi image to /dev/mtd9, and it worked perfectly after rebooting, although it erased all configurations.

On the second router, I tried flashing via the web interface, using LuCI, and it also worked perfectly. However, I had to delete some files in /etc/config due to conflicts.

So, the answer to the question is: yes, in this particular case, for the AX3000T, it appears that upgrading from ImmortalWRT 23.05 to OpenWRT 24.10 works.

That actually made me a bit anxious since there was a chance of bricking the routers, haha. I noticed that the boot time is faster β€” I hope the wireless network performance is good as well!
