Hotel Wifi Best Practice

Hi everyone,

I have some questions about the best practices for configuring a hotel (or campus) Wi-Fi guest connection.

Suppose there are 1500/2000 devices; is it correct to use, for example, a 10.1.x.x/21 network, or is it better to split the network into multiple VLANs/subnets (for example, on each floor)? In the second case, how do you manage when a guest moves, for example, from floor 4 to floor 2, and ensure he remains connected to the network?

Thank you so much.

Thank you so much.
I read it but I don't see any answers that go deeper in network configuration for guest.

Can you tell us about your network:

  • What APs do you use and what firmware are they running?
  • What is your main router (brand/model + firmware)
  • What switches do you have in place?
  • and what is the physical topology of the network?

Also useful would be the concentration of devices and the bandwidth to the facility as well as what you expect tot deliver to the users.

Don't confuse what you may see on this forum about "configuring my guest network", with the type of network to provide Internet access for the customers in the hospitality business sector (eg hotel guests). There is very little, if any, similarity between the two.

You might also benefit from opening an issue on Github at the following link, where you can ask for guidance:

There are numerous people there with experience in this area. If you are lucky they might respond
