Hostapd daemon running, 'iw dev' is normal, but can't connect or see SSID

hi,

i have an issue where the hostapd daemon is running fine, the iw dev output looks normal as well, but i can't see the SSID or connect to it.

are there any tips people can give me as to what the problem could be?

really doesn't matter in this case what OS it is.

the hostapd from iwlwav does not make a difference.

this is not a kernel issue, it's something to do with hostapd configuration settings (i think)

Always set your country code for best wifi results. It doesn't appear to be set.

Logging "AP-ENABLED" means that hostapd has finished setup and is happy, though I only see that for one radio.

Does a scan work and find other networks? That will confirm that the wifi hardware can actually transmit and receive. At least I think that iw uses active scanning. Typical clients like smartphones always scan actively, and will not show a network that didn't respond to their probe request.

which it shouldn't be, and obviously from the dump afterwards, this is not true. i wonder how this could happen? maybe it's a symptom of the problem!

edit2: it works if i put the 'ap-force' argument per this stackexchange. not sure how significant the ability to scan is without this command
