Again no (additional) drops during game play and no strong indicator for transient delay increases (but the statistics from during game play for the important download direction seem to be missing.
But the per-tin statistic columns are not part of the posting, so no information about delay and drops available. However all the CoD and al the FIFA22 cake statistics look normal, no "smoking gun" in there and also no significant difference between FIFA and CoD.
Again, this might indicate that the differences in game experience between the two games might not be caused by elements under your control.
Your mtr really only tells me that 34.141.120.239 does not seem to respond to ICMP echo requests...
I find it curious to come to terms with someone that plays FIFA online and at the same time worries about CAKE statistics and DSCPs. FIFA is played by children and doesn't seem nerdy enough.
No trace of latency, delay, according to network analysis, and yet impossible to play in normal conditions in all games that it is pc, console! Packet marking, DSCP, various algorithms have almost no positive impact on the network. The game generates 4Mb 60'000 pkts and impossible to play in real time. That we can't fix it is possible. But that we can't find the exact origin of the problem with certainty drives me crazy.
Well if the problems occur outside of your network (so either at the level of the game's servers, or along the network path from the servers to your wan interface) there is little you can diagnose/fix.
It's logically outside my network, and the servers are not to blame too many different games on different servers around the world doesn't help. Humidity in the copper line in an airlock? Longer return path? ISP restriction?
After all of this I probably would simply dump FIFA at least over the internet, but i understand that this is not a satisfactory strategy if I would happen to like playing FIFA.
Or dump computer games altogether like I did. They're bad for your soul. They're addictive and eat up way too much time. Also there's a time in one's life where one has to decide: 'I am a man now and it time to put away childish things'. I do miss gaming from time to time, but life is richer without it.
I imagine that you have understood that the problem is not the game but the network and that it impacts everything that touches the network. Any activity that requires reactivity, whether it is gaming, trading, etc., suffers the consequences of the network! And I think I'm in the right place to find out the reason(s) why. Correct me if I'm wrong!
@segal_72 no you are totally right. I only wrote that because I am aged 36 and spent far too much of my life playing video games. A few years ago I decided to quit playing all video games and I feel it was a good decision. And I see how this issue is causing frustration and distress. So it may be worth considering.
Otherwise I re-read the thread and if I am not mistaken it is still uncertain what the root cause is of your experiences.
It's not your ps5:
It's not bluetooth:
It doesn't seem to be the network:
But this whole issue is clearly causing frustration and distress. And I wonder if like me you might feel a huge sense of liberation if you were to completely quit gaming of any kind. I just think it's worth considering, but I won't go on pressing this issue since it is of course a deeply personal issue and choice.
Giving up on a problem without finding a solution, whether it is fixable or not, causes more distress and frustration.
It's a state of mind, either you get on with things or you don't.
Getting angry, giving up etc is far too easy, even a 2 year old can do it!
What you have to remember is that my case is not isolated, there are many of us who suffer from this latency without understanding the reasons.
I occasionally still play games. It was great fun when I introduced "the secret of monkey island" to my kids (old VGA version under ScummVM of course, with period graphics, not this modern re-imagined version for windows, I hear me screaming at the clouds ;0 ). Wondering whether I do not want to try my hand again at lemmigs and populous.
I'm also 36 and if my responsibilities allow, I still play video games in moderation.
@segal_72
Here are my two cents:
I understand the frustration of being penalized by higher latency than your opponent.
A couple of days ago I had a match where the damage registered when I was already at the opposite side of the map as my opponent and one round even ended without me being able to do anything because on my opponents side I "was standing still".
At that point it was more comical than frustrating.
My only guess at this point is for you to try a Wireshark capture and find out the tick rate and latency to the server while also tracking at which time you're waiting in the lobby and at which time you're in the match as there will probably be a lot higher tick rate during matches than while waiting in the lobby.
Also worth noting is that:
If the developers decided for the game's servers to have a low tick rate, there is nothing you can do that is the same for all the servers and for all the players.
If the game matches you with someone from across the world and the server you play on happens to be closer to where your opponent lives, there is nothing you can do.
If the game doesn't have an option to let you choose a server with a low ping near your location, there is nothing you can do.
But it's worth to remember that your opponents have to deal with the same issues you have, even though the game probably has a movement prediction algorithm that makes them look like they are moving smoothly on your screen.
So sometimes you are the one that looks like he has it easy from the other persons perspective!
I live in Europe and the servers are all in Europe. The fastest is 9ms and the slowest 34ms... if I connect to the server in the USA with 104ms I feel no difference with the European servers, strange isn't it? The tick rate surprises me because we are supposed to play at 60 hz and fifa gives me 30hz no matter the screen resolution even in 720p... maybe my opponents play at 60 hz? I don't know! 3 times in the year I have a responsive game so 3% of games normal. Unfortunately wireshark doesn't show me any problems, I refer to the network engineer here who took the trouble to analyse my file!
I take the liberty of questioning the servers and for good reason, even in p2p, besides I have a slight improvement if I am the host in p2p. What you have to remember is that the opponent is clearly ahead of me as if he was playing in the future.
Server tick rate is the number of "simulations of the game world per second" and has nothing to do with the refresh rate of your screen.
For example, I can play the game at 140Hz and I know guys that play it at 300Hz but the server tick rate will still be a fixed 30 updates per second for both of us.
