I am on a Cudy WR3000 newest OWRT. Currently WAN connected to a DSL modem.
Therefore the necessary DSL connection details and password are stored in the WAN interface settings. All ok so far and working flawless.
Now I am planning to move the connection to a Zyxel modem connected to 5G. The Zyxel is connected successfully to 5G and in IP-Passthrough mode, firewall is deactivated.
I connected Zyxel LAN1 to Cudy LAN1 configured as WAN. I thought when I just delete the DSL connection details in the WAN interface settings (to blank) and restart it should just start using the new WAN connection. There are no access details required.
Unfortunately it doesn't work “connection attempt failed".
What's wrong? Can I not just delete the DSL connection details in the WAN interface settings and restart?
What I noticed that even when it says connection attempt failed, I see there is a bit of data traffic reflected for the WAN interface on the interface list.
It’s not really clear what you have done. Can you share your configs before and after?
Typically you need a wan interface that is configured as either dhcp or pppoe, depending on the requirements of the upstream. Rarely, it may need to be static ip.
The wan interface needs to be assigned to a firewall zone - usually the default wan.
Beyond that, we need to see the configs to know what might be wrong with your current system.
Please connect to your OpenWrt device using ssh and copy the output of the following commands and post it here using the "Preformatted text </> " button (red circle; this works best in the 'Markdown' composer view in the blue oval):
Remember to redact passwords, VPN keys, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have:
the DSL modem is configured as PPPOE and so the WAN interface is configured for PPPOE. The Zyxel 5G modern is set to IP-Passthrough. I can't see PPPOE there but DHCP and dynamic or static. I set that to dynamic cause I don't know what could be the static IP.
Or can I just disable that WAN interface for DSL and create a new one for the 5G modern connection?
Does that mean I need to set the WAN interface to DHCP instead PPPOE? If yes is DHCP available in the related drop-down?
And is it ok when I just delete the DSL connection details in that WAN interface when reconfigured for the Zyxel 5G modern not requiring any connection details?
I still don’t know what your config looks like and I don’t really understand what you are changing.
For the zyxel device, if you connect it directly to your computer and try to use that as the internet connection (disable wifi on the computer), does that work?
I will try that as soon as home again. When I remember correctly in this drop-down where currently PPPOE is selected there is a DHCP-client - that's the one, right?
Thanks a lot for your support, the 5G connection is stable and 450mbit fast😄
Ok not sure if my installation method isn't fully legally supported cause I am quite far away from the next 4/5G antenna. I have installed the external antenna in an old satellite dish, now full signal and it runs like hell…
