At least with the GL-AR300M series and the GL-AR750S, you can flash the GL.iNet OEM NOR image with sysupgrade. On those units, the U-Boot also is full-featured, with HTTP access to flash images.

Yup, a default sysupgrade via LuCI worked just fine to revert to the original firmware.
