Firmware upgrade on OpenWrt One 24.10.0-rc2

Hi everyone!

I would like to perform a firmware upgrade on my OpenWrt One (OpenWrt 24.10.0-rc2). Accoording to this guide, this can be achieved from the command line. However, installing owut (opkg update && opkg install owut) fails with this error message: opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package owut.

Therefore, I assume that the rc2 candidate is not a fully functional 24.10.0 version, and I need to perform the upgrade via LuCI or USB. In both cases, openwrt-mediatek-filogic-openwrt_one-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb would be the file to be used for the upgrade, right?

Thank you for any feedback already at this point!

Yes. Have you read the device wiki? https://openwrt.org/toh/openwrt/one

RC2 is the release shipped from factory.

Not sure the RC2 repo contains owut.

Correct observation.

Get sysupgrade image of 24.10.4 instead from https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=24.10.4&target=mediatek%2Ffilogic&id=openwrt_one

Now you can install owut and future upgrades will be easy as you wanted.

Thank you for the confirmation. Yes, i read that page. I got confused since in other sources it was referred to *.tar.gz or *.bin files. I just wanted to be shure and thus i dared to pose this question

On one platform it is tarball, on other platform raw flash image, on yet another something in the middle.

Hi efahl,

Thank you very much for the detailed instruction on how to fix my router! I guess i know what i'll be doing this weekend.

Hi efahl,

I just upgrade my router to 24.10.4 using your description. What can I say: it just worked! Thank you very much!
