Firmware Selector: customized: no initramfs build?

hi friends, i was surprised by this:

for this device, initramfs and sysupgrade builds are provided. however, if i request a custom build in the firmware selector, then the initramfs build is missing. why?

what would be the point, you're not supposed to use it for more than a couple of minutes.

well my question is why is this happening. i think this does not happen on some other devices, or am i wrong?

besides my question, there is definitely a point to customized initramfs:

this is a device locked down by secure boot and on which accessing uboot shell requires an unknown password. it also does not support A/B boot (for now).

because of that, i made a solution to be able to boot a recovery OS on request. the recovery is an initramfs.

i'd like to customize my initramfs to contain: gdisk, sgdisk, blkdiscard, luci-ssl, etc. i'd like the recovery to at least have luci.

I think you are.

you can always pull those from the internet, if one of the ports of your device works.

lol, yes, the point is pulling them from the internet once, before setting up recovery, note every time i boot recovery.

not to mention that many of my routers do not have internet access.

oh... so that's it, customized initramfs are never produced. so that's a policy decision, alright then.

of course it'd be nice to be able to request a custom initramfs when needed, but i suppose this hasn't been deemed important enough to warrant development and i totally understand that.

thank you @frollic !

I know that it is not the question asked in the OP but can the initramfs be customized in the imagebuilder with a fairly straight forward process? Maybe building it on your own imagebuilder instance could work.
