Firewall fw3 reset following banIp uses

I have been messing up with the firewall fw3. Specifically, I have used fw3 flush, I have used banIp in a few different (bad) ways (which itself makes direct calls to iptables).

I am comfortable with the state of \etc\config\firewall but I am not sure the actual configuration of iptables, all the chain definitions, etc are as they should be.

How can I "reset" fw3 so that the state of iptables reflects only /etc/config/firewall and nothing extra that I would have mistakenly introduced?

Changes of banIP are not permanent - /etc/init.d/banip stop removes those rules.
