Finally fixed my sqm settings on low end hardware router

This is not a help thread but it might be helpful to community.

2 years ago I was having problems setting sqm correct. I said let’s try again with AI help and I finally fixed it. You can see

this is router I use. very basic and budget friendly. I thought it is weak hardware and no matter I do I will have bufferbloat but I was just doing things wrong.

now thats my results.

I had https dns proxy, big adblock lists… I deleted them and only set sqm with right settings and it worked and I don’t have ping on gaming anymore. Trick is only setting sqm and ignoring all the other features on low end router.

screenshot is from yesterday. this is the result i got now:

https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=c1681cb2-3434-4fce-870d-10e9283dbe7c

I can say sqm is worth and my ping in counter strike 2 is stable no more lag drops.

"I solved it" won't help people, you're just bragging.

Well, idk. someone might search and see this thread and learn from my mistakes.

TLDR: only install sqm and ignore all other features on Xiaomi Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition and sqm will work fine.

I can share secret sauce (7621, and similar) - create -br-wan , then run offload towards new soft-bridge and apply SQM-s to wan physical/vlan/dsa device… Gives A at no loss of bandwidth unless your provider has infra totally messed up.

Hi, can you please elaborate a bit.

Do you mean,

I create a br-wan (bridge) interface. Then use this br-wan as default gateway instead of wan (or should i remove my current wan and create br-wan by bridging it with eth0.2).

then run offload towards new soft-bridge

how to do that? just enabling “Software flow offloading” in firewall config?

apply SQM-s to wan physical/vlan/dsa device

you mean after the above, apply sqm to eth0.2 instead of br-wan?

Yes, keep SQM on ethX.2 but attach bridge and you can have SQM with most of offload atonce.

Could you please share this in a more detailed way?

Hey, have you managed to this configuration? How much throughput are you getting with SQM on MT7621?
