Emmc or sd security

I'm using openwrt successfully on a removable emmc and I'm wanting to know how secure it typically is when it's removed. I tried to find my private keys on it using a usb emmc reader but I was glad I couldn't find any. I might not have had the proper software loaded though.

I tried searching but the topics i found were about how to install or how flash works.

Much thanks,

I do not think that there is any real security. If you insert the card to a reader that supports the correct file systems, I think that you should be able to read all files there.

In general, there is not much security if you have physical access to the device (and the removable media), as there is no "secure boot" style of device-tied drive encryption or boot prevention. (If you have physical access, you can usually trigger the failsafe mode and bypass passwords.)
