Hi, I had the imprudence to install DD-Wrt on Linksys ea8300. For 2 weeks now I've read everything on the internet for an option to get rid of this firmware, but to no avail. Please nudge me to install OppenWrt.
Interesting that DD-Wrt has settled on both first and second partition ...
OpenWrt is typically installed from a factory/vendor supplied firmware. You need to ask dd-wrt people for help getting back to the factory firmware.
Alternatively, you can use uboot to get back to either vendor firmware or OpenWrt. This requires serial port access — do you have a TTL UART serial to usb adapter?
Yes, I tried this method, but again it doesn't work - when I start tftp I just see through the serial console how the router loads
Regarding DD_WRT- I wrote to support - no reply !
It is a dual-partition device, may return to other partition with OEM fw if you power cycle it multiple times at early ddwrt start. Ymmv
No good. OP has written DD-WRT to both partitions.
By support you mean the forum?
Just wait .
Maybe @egc could help you.
I have an EA8500 for DDWRT I used:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_EA8500
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311117
serial access: https://mrjcd.com/EA8500_DD-WRT/
Do not have DDWRT on one partition and OpenWRT on the other
I hope that helps
I've tried it all: When starting PuTTY/Serial it doesn't get to the end (as shown in the picture) - hangs somewhere and won't let me continue (I think it just starts the router...)
Keep "any key" pressed , maybe it breaks something in a good way.
Ok, I'll try again. Thanks.
If there are other ideas - I am ready to try. Basically, I'm over the router
https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/ea8300#revert_to_stock
only need this your put OEM firmware in /tmp like scp -O .... , winscp, ftp, etc.. and make steeps following that url
and example from my ea8300
after you can flash anything from linsys web inteface, include Openwrt.
cheers!
...nothing again. Thank you for your help! I will keep reading and trying !
Maintenance question: is it possible to make a firmware that "lies" the system to be DD-WRT, but is actually OpenWRT?
Why would you want that?
To perform an update I guess.
@git72
If you are stuck, and the bootloader still responds, than use TFTP or serial link to restore a firmware, ideally Linksys firmware. Than install back OpenWrt of course.
I can't see which picture.
Since I'm not allowed to upload photos yet - the 6th photo from this link
... because I have tried ALL the options described on the internet , and can not get rid of DD-WRT.
Years ago I had a GL54 Linksys, and I was very happy with the DD-wrt, but the ea8300 - they didn't work - it's very buggy !
You first have to go back to stock using serial recovery.
Only after that you can go to Openwrt
I understand what you're saying, but I don't get the weave as described - here are pictures of the serial connection:
- What issue are you having with the "weave"?
- What does the screenshot communicate regarding that issue?
