Dynalink DL-WRX36 Askey RT5010W IPQ8072A technical discussion

Interestingly, last night I had simultaneous radio crashes on both APs. At the time they were on yesterday's snapshot release.

Both refer to the same MAC address , which isn't one I've seen logged anywhere else. This looks related to previous reports of radio crashes but the fact it happened on both at the same time seems to imply that the client is doing something that tickles the radio fw.

EDIT: I have seen it before, twice, earlier in April. And both times the radio crashed.

...until rebooted

I have just flashed r22594. Unfortunately, I am not quite up to date with the discussions.
Please let me know what tests I need to run and what data you are looking for. My laptop has Intel ax210 card and I have enabled the 160HMz.

Tested r22594, any channel above 128 @ 160 Mhz brings down the wifi interface and luci shows 6Ghz !

Maybe above 128 is not a valid channel see: https://help.keenetic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012060379-Available-channels-on-the-5-GHz-Wireless-network

I think the article is about helvetian country code. There is an FCC "Use of the 5.850-5.925 GHz Band" and it should be working in US, but it doesn't.

Is there a way to apply sysupgrade image without interfering with an EXTROOT configuration?

First post to this discussion. I ran into a kernel oops today. I received and setup my wrx36 yesterday without any issues. The setup is wrx36 as router configured with WDS Access Point (5GHz) and i have two RT3200's connecting as Clients.

I've not escalated a kernel dump before, but let me know if any the devs would like more information. Prior to this dump, one of the WDS Clients disconnected.

Aha!

I now know which local device/s is/are causing this - a pair of Calex-branded Tuya-based RGBWW LED strip controllers. When they are powered on, they attempt to connect to each of the APs in turn, and cause the identical crash on both of them. I have absolutely no idea why; we've got other Tuya-based RGBWW lamps (not strips) in the house and they have no problems at all. Very unusual.

Yeah, iot crap need separate ap to not crash whole network sometimes ...

My primary WRX36 is now at approx 2.5mo uptime, no issues whatsoever.
2nd one was turned off while we were on vacation, to save some power..

DL-WRX36 has been otherwise quite stable also for me, with one exception:

WPA3 + 802.11r (FT-SAE) kills wifi sooner or later, when some FT-SAE clients disassociate. Then only reboot helps.

For me the DL-WRX36 is also very stable but just using plain WPA2 an no 802.11r.
I am also using WireGuard (speed tested internally with iperf3 above 800 Mb/s).
Wifi range is comparable with my R7800, Wifi speed about 10 - 15% faster for ax clients

This is an amazing router for slightly over € 100

@hnyman are you also going to make builds for it just as your much loved R7800 builds?

Router finally arrived from the US yesterday with:

firmware 1.10.01.14 -- HW version: REV_DV0_01_EM1

Snapshot r22657 install went fairly smooth using the Option 2: method, apart from:

  • the FAT-formatted USB flash drive not being recognised, formatted to FAT32 then OK
  • at point 3.Reboot the device to boot the initramfs # reboot after the reboot, initramfs wouldn't load, I had to power off/on to continue.

Installed luci & used the firmware-selector (with all custom packages) to build the Sysupgrade image, then used LuCI interface to install. Further sysupgrade I'll use the Attended Sysupgrade option.

Some issues:

  • system cron had entries in the syslog of the actual command being run, they somehow disappeared though
  • both 5GHz & 2GHz less range compared to my TP-Link c2600, country code set to AU - Australia, setting the Maximum transit power to a higher value doesn't change the Current power value, it stays the same as the driver default: 18 dBm
  • I use ntpd -d -n -q -N -p 162.159.200.123 -p 162.159.200.1 -p 67.219.100.202 -p 103.76.40.123 in local startup to synch the time (for wireguard), but for some reason getting
daemon.notice procd: /etc/rc.d/S95done: ntpd: send failed: Network unreachable
even though I have defined routes via wan for these IP's, and 'wan' is already up prior to Wrt running this command (working on c2600)

Gather these issues are most probably related to the snapshot. :crossed_fingers:

All up, running Wireguard, Guest interface, Minidlna, Samba, with custom: static leases & static IPv4 routes & IPv4 rules & port forwards, Windows clients, USB storage & printer, Uptime 11h 30m 26s and system seems stable!!

Did you take into account that your client (PC/Laptop) has to renew its leases as it is still on the default 192.168.216.x and initramfs is now defaulting to 192.168.1.1?

Good point, especially when your connect via ethernet. I would of thought the reboot and subsequent boot from USB initramfs would of sufficed.

This should have been noticed by the client, if it was connected directly to the device... ?

My Windows 10 client did not notice it and stayed at 192.168.216.x, I had to do an ipconfig /renew but that could just be me

weird, if the connection drops, wired or wireless, there should be a DHCP request sent out when it comes back up, but who knows ...
