Does this support dual boot?
If so can we manually change the boot partition from mtd20 to/from mtd18 and/or setup as a fall-over function?
After recently having an attended upgrade to snapshot fail and going through the serial process, it would be useful to use the extra partition and perhaps have a function to use it to backup current configuration.

I've added to the below for changing between partitions and untested, and this will only be useful if you're able to load openwrt, not in a recovery situation.

It doesn't, currently.
DL-WRX36 has dual partitions, but only one partition is used by OpenWrt, so it is single boot in practice.

Year ago there was discussion about implementing dual-boot functionality, and there is a proof-of-concept code for that. But the idea never took hold.

If you have implemented the boot from USB you can simply plug in the USB stick, then the initramfs is loaded and you can recover from there (been there done that).
No need for serial.

From time to time, 5GHz WiFi doesn't work properly on my WRX36, after changing configuration. I need to turn it off, wait a few seconds, turn it on again, and all works reliably for months (until I change something)

I have suffered this before. What channel is your 5GHz radio set to? Try other channels between 36 - 48 and see. Remember to set your region's regulatory domain correctly.

Below is how mine is configured for RELEASE firmware versions. Once in a while, I have to change the channel being used, but that's usually it!

So I tried going to the SNAPSHOT and I ended up with a READONLY fs. I could not even update the pkgs or install any. Because I had implemented the boot from USB option, it saved me a lot. I just went back to 23.05.3.
I am wondering what led to the RO fs though.

Until I change anything. Channel, SSID, etc. I never really spent much time investigating it, since changing 5GHz configuration is almost never required, and a power cycle solves it

However, after some time I find hundreds of zero-sized files, some even having non-ascii characters in their names, in the root directory as well as inside other directories, like in /bin.
I am wondering what could be creating these files. My router is not directly connected to the Internet. It is on the LAN side of my ISPs router.

are these permanent or if you log in again does it clear

reason I ask is I have seen issues a bit like this in a shell when MTU is incorrectly configured on a network

edit : actually scroll down and look at the filenames, this is some kind of failing shell command and there is a permission denied error. whatever the error message is, said shell command is somehow using the error message to create empty files. maybe try ls -altr to see if time ordering gives more of a clue then grep your filesystem to see which script might be the culprit.

if correct, "root@DL-WRX36" almost certainly appears in it somewhere, and maybe what we are also seeing there is and incorrect hashed password (randomly chopped up) for root

To complement previous advice, have you installed anything, packages, scripts, etc. that should do extra logging and save something to flash? (and could be the reason for the file activity)
By default OpenWrt writes pretty much nothing to the flash during operations, so having files created at all seems strange.

It turns out that I had some integrations within my Home Assistant that were causing these because I had disabled the corresponding scripts in the router.

Interesting could you cite what integrations you installed - per a previous comment I would not expect anything to write to flash, I have HA, but haven't ventured to integrate with openWRT as yet so good to know what to avoid.

Update 2:
My 2nd WRX36 SysUpgrade from Stable to Snapshot then to NSS build without issues. All can boot OK.

So it is only my 1st WRX36 failed to run Snapshot / NSS build - but Stable runs fine.

Can I copy partitions from 2nd WRX36 to 1st WRX36 to make then identical? Which partitions should be copied?

I tried using 23.05.3, snapshot, and the NSS custom build.

Only 23.05.3 works by writing with ubiformat to /dev/mtd18 and /dev/mtd20

Both snapshot and NSS build will brick.

My WRX36 softbricks again.

About 1 month ago my WRX36 is running snapshot fine for months.

Then after running AttendedSysUpgrade, it softbricked.

I just recover using Serial Console to 23.05.3 OK.

Then I download snapshot again, using Luci to flash the sysupgrade image - openwrt-qualcommax-ipq807x-dynalink_dl-wrx36-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin , then it softbricked again.

Serial Console is giving this error:

I'm only getting 500Mbit download via 5GHz WiFi (160MHz, channel 116) on 23.05.3. I already enabled packet steering and software flow offloading. Is there anything else I can do?

Only 160MHz seems to be affected. The 80MHz download speed is even higher. (Tested with Pixel 7 and Intel AX210).

The AX210 receive link is just using 80 MHz instead of 160 MHZ.

I also noticed that the upload speed becomes horrible slow (50mbit instead of 200Mbit) when being just 3 meters away.
