Dump Access Point

Why is it that so many posters refer to dumb access points as dump access points?

Is there a Google translate error somewhere or an AI thingy that has the wrong end of the stick? Or maybe an ‘in’ joke that I’m not aware of? Or something else?

So, getting to the reason for this post, am I the only person that finds it really annoying?

Could be auto-complete. Could be that English is not the poster's first language (in which case, sometimes spellings get confused, especially since it's sometimes easy to mistake 'b' vs 'p' sounds if you don't write/speak English frequently). Could be that people see "dump AP" and think that's what it's called if they haven't seen the term before.

But, there has been a recent effort to call it more accurately what it is: a bridged AP.

I didn’t know that. Is there a page where the proper terms for things can be found?

The old "dumb AP" page now redirects to the Bridge AP over Ethernet wiki page.
