I just thought about if it's worth to care about a Dlink DIR-652 model. I have two devices A1 with ubicom 7150u fast chip and one DIR-652 B1 with Atheros 9342
They have 8 MB flash and 64 MB RAM, do they should do a satisfying job also for future development of Openwrt.
There are thousands on the market of old provider contracts gifts on german cable market.
Maybe we can easily implement it, since they also offer GPL licenses here
