Flash drive size is limited, so better keep it clean.
Don't worry about dependencies - opkg tell you if some other packages depends of this one.
The only issue you should know what package exactly used for - or you lost some functionality. In 90% it's not fatal, you can install it back from repo.

I get the below SMBD errors every hour (same set of errors) but could not find a fix idea on the internet. It seems to be regular every 1 hour so something is triggering a SMBD connection that seems to fail.

I did not have this problem on prior revisions it just appeared on Davidc502' latest build "OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r9813-b812a7fa68 / LuCI Master (git-19.096.59235-71d9140)"

All settings were unchanged on the upgrade to r9813.

Prior error set was at Tue Apr 16 17:46:42 2019

Anyone have an idea how I can fix this?

I have a WRT3200AC setup as the main router with 2 dumb APs linked to it. All are running the latest Davidc502 build r9813.

Those look like Samba File Sharing daemon errors... Something to do with machine AcerLaptopBackup.

Do you actively use Samba?

Yes, I have a few Windows 10 PCs and Laptops that I share folders across them.

Issue was not there on prior build but shows up on newest build. No settings changed on my setup.

Did something change with SAMBA with latest build?

EDIT: I did some more digging and I may have some strange network sharing setup with the laptop in question. I will investigate more tomorrow. I'll get back if I cannot figure it out.

Thanks.

What version of Windows is on the acer laptop, If its Windows 10 then SMB (SAMBA) Version 1.0 has been disabled by microsoft, you can re-enable it, but this might place you at risk for malware.

See if you can setup NFS shares if possible.

Yes, I checked and SMB needs to be activated.

I had some problems setting-up sharing on the Win 10 Laptop so went with a fresh Win 10 install. In the process of reloading software.

Will check tomorrow if this cleared up the SMBD errors on the WRT3200ACM.

Stop using SMB/Samba 1.0, Microsoft deprecated it for a reason (it’s spectacularly insecure) :smirk:

OK.

How do I setup sharing so that I can see Windows 10 PCs along with Linux Satellite Set Top Boxes (OpenATV) without using SMB?

Note that this is for a home network with the WRT3200ACM accessing the internet through a DSL Modem (FritzBox 7590). WRT3200ACM does firewall , DCHP etc..

I personally don't use SMB because of its insecure nature due to EternalBlue, However people can still use SMB Version 2.0 and 3.0 unless they have been exploited to not fully upto date, Now Samba4 is already installed with DavidC502 builds, however samba4-admin is not.

Thanks. I did turn off "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" in Win 10 "Windows Features" on my home PCs. The Win 10 Network still connects to those PCs so I suppose this is not needed and is a safer setup.

Hi Davidc502. First of all I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your builds I have used last 3 years!

I do have Linksys WRT1900ACS and 4 moths ago I got Linksys WRT32x. Both are excellent routers, and your build worked very stable untill now. But recently my WRT32x started to act strangely (wifi dropping for a very short time and comeback up). Most of the connected devices did not feel that except my amazon fire stick. I decided its time to update the firmware of the router, to your latest build available and so I did. but I noticed that there are some issues after the update.

  1. The Luci interface became very laggy
  2. Every second/third time you go to a different setting menu it get stuck. Same goes then you press save and apply it sometimes get stuck.
  3. I cannot flash firmware as it does not allow me to flash back, and If I select force option, if start to flash, reboot but to the same build and and was definitely selecting a different build, even tried to flash stock firmware. I solved it via SSH, and flashed back to your older build.

As a very happy user of your builds just wanted to provide some feedback on what I have experienced with the latest build.

Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for the information. I'll check github and see if there isn't already a case open on this LuCi issue.

New builds have just been uploaded to the server.

Kernel version = 4.14.111
WiFi driver = 10.3.8.0-20181210
Build = r9886

No change in the wifi driver since the last build. There have been a few kernel bumps as well as various bug fixes.

If you can, I do recommend this build due to the security patches that have been applied to hostapd.

CVE-2019-9497, CVE-2019-9498, CVE-2019-9499

CVE-2019-9496

CVE-2019-9495

Try LuCi-theme-Material. Try logging in, and it may hang for a minute, but eventually the page will come up. Try clicking around a bit, and you might get one more hang, but after that it should work normally. Let me know if this make a difference.

David apologize in case I have asked this before, however I warn the cancer that I have been dealing with I have small memory lapses.

It is possible to let Dnscrypt-proxy version 2 be installed natively in the new versions built, it would make it easier for people like me, always keep a default partition, and its last build factory install, since a new one comes out.

no more grateful for your work on our behalf, and I am sorry if I have or will offend anyone, because it was never my intention, and I am sorry that my English is bad.

First thank you for the update (especially with CVE mitigations).

I’m trying to install NFS and ffmpeg on your build using the trick with replacing distribution sources with OpenWRT ones but even very shortly after an update the kernel hash is already different.

Downloading https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/mvebu/cortexa9/packages//kmod-fs-nfs-v3_4.14.111-1_arm_cortex-a9_vfpv3.ipk
Collected errors:
 * satisfy_dependencies_for: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for kmod-fs-nfs-v3:
 * 	kernel (= 4.14.111-1-c1a059d51edab291cfe5f52e6fc3d699

(Kernel in your build is - 4.14.111-1-32b94a08792b288809b656b30ec92ab5).

Could you advice me what to do when I want to install FFmpeg and NFS and still use your build?
Or should I move to stock builds with my requirements?

PS I use 1900ACS with ExRoot to make a place for FFmpeg and NFS.

No worries, and hope you put Cancer into remission.

At this time, dnscrypt-proxy Version 2 is not a part of OpenWrt. The reason or problem is OpenWrt being able to cross compile dnscrypt-proxy version 2. From what I understand this issue has not been fixed or changed. So, dnscrypt-proxy version 2 is actually a pre-compiled binary that is downloaded to OpenWrt.

As soon as it becomes available it will be included in the build for everyone. For now, I offer a script that can be saved automatically so that after upgrading, just ssh and run the script which gets everything running automatically.

You can ignore the error and force the install anyway... My guess is it would make the system unstable.

Random tip for WRT3200ACM:
Pin the 5ghz band to cpu1 (cpu0=1 cpu1=2)
echo 2 > /proc/irq/49/smp_affinity
