Connect to capture portal network with ethernet

Hello everyone,

I just moved in my dorm room, and I would like to setup my own router for various reasons.
The wifi is using a wifirst captive portal.

I found some topics discussing how to connect the router to WiFi, which worked fine, but I have an ethernet plug in my room, so I would like to connect the router to it instead of using Wifi.

However when I connect the router using ethernet, I cannot resolve any addresses, not even the captive portal url. It's the same when I connect my computer directly to the ethernet plug.

The thing to note is that I get a lan ip, and that I can properly monitor traffic on the network (including to and from my devices)

Could anyone help me with this ?

Thanks

PS: My router is a Xiaomi Redmi AX6000 running OpenWrt 23.05.4

I think you first need what sequence of actions enables access on a computer, then try to replicate that using OpenWrt.

What I meant is that, when I plug in either my computer or the router, they detect the network, can monitor the traffic but they cannot reach the internet nor resolve the captive portal or anything else.

Yes, that is what I understood. If you manage to get internet using the computer, we will probably be able to help you replicate the procedure on the router. If it does not work on the computer, it's harder to understand what is going on.

Okay I made it work.
I noticed a change in the IP when connecting via WiFi (10.188..) or ethernet (10.190...), so I plugged back in the AP and plugged my router in one of the AP's ports thus giving me a 10.188.. IP.
Now it just works and I did the same as when I was using wifi to authorize the router.
Thanks anyway
