Configure TP-Link RE650 v1 as Access Point and WireGuard VPN

I have managed to install OpenWrt 25.12.0 on my TP-Link RE650 v1.

It receives its internet connection via the LAN port.

I have also configured a WireGuard interface on the device. It is up and running, being that TX and RX values are populated.

I have created a SSID, and is getting internet service from it.

My ultimate wish, is to have the WiFi uitilise the WireGuard connection.

Basically, I wish to have the RE650 device operate like a regular router.

I have noticed that, on a regular router, there are wan interfaces, that are automatically created, to handle the internet connection. The RE650 device only has a LAN interface.

I would like some help completing the task.

Start with creating a guest wifi on this bridged ap

If wireguard is setup correctly the guest wifi will automatically use wireguard

To add, how to setup a WireGuard client on a Dumb Access Point is described in:
WireGuard Client Setup Guide

There is a special paragraph about setting up on a Dumb AP

I have tried the methods included in the PDF to no avail.

I have noticed two particular differences, between the GUI in the tutorials, and the one on my device:

  1. After creating the bridged guest device, my RX value remains at 0, obviously indicating no sign of communications.

  2. There is no wan interface on the TP-Link RE650 by default. I get a wan interface, whenever I use the device in repeater mode, and setup the wireless connection.

In the end though, is it possible to upload a configuration, to the point where I have reached, and have it corrected, to work as desired?

Ok guys listen up. I came across a video on YouTube, and this guy is the best. He gave the full config instructions, step-by-step, even to the point of isolating your guest network traffic from your main network traffic.

The link is below:

Show this guy maximum respect and support. He is the best.

Also, spread to link/knowledge in the community, and beyond.
