Forgive me, couldn't find this answer anywhere; is it okay to use a config.seed from a build that is 6 months old on a current snapshot? Could that cause issues?
Yes.
Generally no. Run the usual make defconfig afterwards. One recent problem is a clash between odhcpd and odhcpd-ipv6only due to an updated default package selection.
Deselect odhcpd is you encounter this problem.
