I've already found 16Mb firmware and flashed to 16Mb flash rom.
Old flash is really dead.
It happened when I tried to flash ImmortalWrt, I tried to do this twice and both times it killed flash ROM, second time it killed only firmware, but chip was safe.
It happens even with OpewnWRT that you flash broken release that cannot access flash after, even less flash proper version from that OpenWRT. You have to first ask them (github discussion, if you ask in English they respong in English) if it is a problem introduced by them or inherited from OpenWRT upstream.
I had about twenty kinds of routers for eight years, and came across first time. You can tell them if you want bro, I just had the first experience with it and it failed.
If you have other item of same kind you can try to brick it using OpenWRT and report a bug here. Currently best can be done here is to direct you to proper support channel.
Trust me, I had many devices bricked, but all of them were bricked by mine bad. And no one by OpenWrt. I just don't want to use ImmortalWrt anymore and that's all.
